We kept this one relaxed without going oversized, so it sits easy and still looks considered. The design comes from Ghardaïa, a walled town deep in the Algerian Sahara, and there’s a real story behind it. It’s just below.
In Ghardaïa they build houses that show the street nothing. Blank ochre walls, no sign of who lives well and who doesn’t, and inside, a courtyard open only to the sky. The Ibadi Berbers have kept this line for a thousand years, one face turned out to the world, one kept back for themselves. That’s what this design is: light and shadow, the shown and the kept. The town is real, and so is the trip to stand between its walls.
